New Years Funkin with Marshall Jones (Soulidified Music)
December 31, 2008 05:08 AM PST
Marshall Jones started out in the scene in mid 1999. Just like a lot of people who are inspired by the scene, Marshall was all about dancing and enjoying the nightlife. He immediately thirsts for the knowledge on DJing and sought out for answers. Through this, he landed in the guidance of Hotwax Harley and the Radiance crew. at the age of 19, Marshall bought records, sat down with his crew and took in the teachings and art of DJing. From the education of Hotwax Harley, DJ Slipstream, A.D. and the rest of the family, he started molding himself into something he calls "Chunky but Funky". Between 2000 and 2002, Marshall played anywhere he could. From the NC, VA, to SC. Then in 2003 he transported himself to Orlando, FL. While living out his time here in Orlando, he has managed to become successful working for Large Music out of Chicago as a Director of Media Promotions, helped in creating a group called Brownsville, also being a new member of Soul Selection music, and of course meeting with Ian Lee. Then in 2006, together they became Soulidified Music. 1) Marshall's groove is?
2) When did you get your hands on turntables?
3) Who was or were your music mentors?
4. Why do you do it?/ What's your message behind it?
5) Tell me about Soulidified Music?
6. Who have you played with or where have you played that you are marking it as a great accomplishment? Wow... I must say playing with Roy Davis Jr. and XL in Chicago was a great one. Plus playing with Mark Grant in Chicago. It is a huge accomplishment for me to know that I am doing the right things because I am alongside these greats that I look up to in the city. I admired them since I started. 7. Where can we catch one of your sets? Well the next thing is WMC at Indra Lounge. We are doing the J.H.I. Community party again and we will have more details to come. Before that check me out in Chicago and you can get details on my MYSPACE PAGE

Podcast SummarySweet Soulful House & then some. About SoulI do it for the love of house. I remember at the age of 5 dancing & entertaining the grown folks party as my dad played cuts from Willie Colon, Johnny Ventura, Hector Lavoe, Grupo Niche, Guayacan, Joe Arroyo, Tito Puente etc " Growing up with my sisters soul/r&b tapes, my mothers disco records and my fathers "son latino" I was bound to get some rhythm. When I was old enough to get my own music I ventured into Rock ,New Wave & eventually Trip Hop. Where I came across vocalists like Tracy Thorn from Everything but the Girl, Gina Rene from Soulstice, Carol C from SiSe and while following their work I discovered house remixes of such and was hooked to that house sound. This is 1999 or so. One day while looking through crates I found a track featuring "La India" myr all time favorite vocal goddess and it was "Love & Happiness" from River Ocean from that day I was forever grateful to that house sound.. I have been on that endless journey to house music bliss with every song I play and every set I attend. "I do it simply for the L.O.V.E." Influences Jean F.
